MATKA 2010 Nordic Travel Fair
This is the biggest travel fair in Northern Europe attracting over 86,000 people to last year's event over the course of three days. The theme for this year is “Travel as a Preserver of Culture”.

Modern[ism]
The Design Museum organises a major retrospective on the different manifestations of Modernism in Europe and North American, with a main focus on the "golden age" of Modernism from the 1910s to the late 1930s. Gathering material from several museums and private collections across Europe, this exhibition will put the Bauhaus school on the spotlight.

The Power of Africa – Three Perspectives
African sculpture, early 20th century European Modernism and Finnish contemporary art will be on display at Emma to create an art dialogue brings together African sculpture, and presents an art dialogue between two different cultural groups through some 50 African masks and sculptures and some 100 paintings and sculptures.

Wine Expo
During Wine Expo, visitors can try fermented grape juice of all descriptions from across the world. There are guided tours, lectures about food and wine and, best of all, a chance to taste some of the products. You may not want to drive home afterwards.

Isaac Julien
In the second half of the year, the Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma will dedicate an exhibition to the English visual artist Isaac Julien, one of the foremost contemporary artists today. His video installations make versatile use of film, dance, theatre, music and visual art. The exhibition in Kiasma focuses on Julien's most recent work on the themes of race, history and identity, as well as contemporary global issues, such as immigration.

Jorma Puranen
Emma’s autumn programme features an extensive exhibition of the work of the Finnish photographer Jorma Puranen, an artist known for his Nordic landscape photographs in which he approaches landscape from a conceptual starting point, photographing the imprint of man and cultures on nature and history.

April Jazz Espoo
The April Jazz Espoo at the Espoo Cultural Centre consistently attracts top-class international performers as well as the best Finnish and Scandinavian artists. One of the city's most popular festivals, thousands of music fans descend on Espoo for its duration. The principal festival venue is the Cultural Centre. A marquee accommodating more than 1,000 people is also set up in the square opposite to host performances, while others take place in the Tapiola Garden Hotel.

World Village Festival

Helsinki Festival
A performance by the legendary Russian pianist Evgeny Kissin at the city’s Finlandia Hall on Saturday 14 August will kick off the Helsinki Festival that will be followed by two weeks of arts, theatre, music, dance and cinema. You will not want to leave Helsinki then. With hundred of events around the city in one day, the Night of the Arts is the biggest party of the festival. It will take place on Friday 27 August.

Pori Jazz
From a small jazz event, Pori Jazz has grown over the course of more than four decades to be the most popular and the most diverse music festival in Finland. You can choose between the big names performing at the Kirjurinluoto Park or the smoking bands at the clubs. The programme is top-class and it includes blues, pop, rock, funk, r&b and, of course, jazz. Some of the latest headliners have been Sting, Stevie Wonder, Santana and Macy Gray.

Finland Ice Marathon
Thousands of blades hit the frozen surface of Kuopio's Lake Kallavesi for the annual Ice Marathon, which begins with the school skating competitions. Highlights include a competition to see who can go the fastest over the 2km or 12.5km distance.

Naisten Kymppi
Naisten Kymppi is Finland's biggest female sporting event. Around 15,000 runners, joggers, walkers and Nordic Walkers of all ages take part. Come test your endurance or party with the bands. The distance of the course (starting and finishing near Finlandia Hall) is about ten kilometres and entertainment with bands and other performers encourages participants along the route.
