Focus On Malaysia

Day 8

The day of departure brings a visit to Queensbay, the largest and newest mall. As we scoop up a Baskin and Robbins' ice-cream or sip a Starbucks' latte, we cannot help but notice the brands and prices are European despite the end of the year sales. The farewell dinner is another delicious fare in a highly-praised Indian restaurant, served while music is skilfully played on traditional instruments. We arrive at the airport at dusk and, smiling, I read the "Strictly no durians" notice pinned to the x-ray machine, but I am also aware that a bit of my heart will remain behind with these beautiful people and unforgettable places.

The trip was sponsored by the Malaysia's Ministry of Tourism. I offer a heartfelt thank you for their professionalism and also gratitude to our hosts, guides and drivers, especially Marie, Mari, Isat and Vijay.
