Once again we are surprised by such a varied selection for breakfast ranging from fresh coconut to scrambled eggs, porridge and even sushi. Guests from the Emirates and Saudi Arabia fill the dining room: the men in T-shirt and slippers, the ladies fully-covered in abaya - the black dress hat only leaves an opening for the eyes. We are told that Malaysians wear the Muslim scarf, but never the abaya.
We leave for the coolest point of Malaysia, Fraser's Hill, a trendy spot located at 1,500m, where one can follow the jungle tracks, play golf, ride or swim. After a trip to the jungle with our guide Durai, who pointed out all the birds and identified various plants and their uses - this one stops the bleeding; the other keeps water you can drink; and so on -, I was happy to hit a few balls on the golf course with him and hope his advice would improve my 14 handicap. A bubbly personality, Durai, a man of nature, can not only identify birds and answer their call, but also participates in educating school children, other guides and is deeply involved in nature preservation projects. |
