It seems like every year, there is a new toy during the shopping season that almost every kid wants. A few examples would include, the Tickle-Me-Elmo, the pink Barbie camper, Furreal Pets, Pillow Pets, and many more. These days though, it seems like kids are more into video games rather than physical toys such as stuffed animals or doll houses. The success of gaming consoles such as the PlayStation, Xbox, and the Wii have spawned a paradigm shift where the demand for toys continues to decline and demand or virtual products such as video games and movies continues to rise. While virtual toys are rising in popularity, there are still many physical toys that still are very much in demand. One example is the Barbie doll. The classic American doll is still just as popular among little girls as it was decades ago. Barbie’s accessories also are still very popular. Another brand of physical toys that still sells well is Nerf. Nerf water guns and footballs are very popular among little boys. But as time goes on, I believe there is a good chance that even these iconic American brands will start to decline. Popular Christmas toys in the future will be much different from what thy have been in the past.
